Trail Crest Brewing Company

This place is still young and has yet to find its footing, but I see a lot of potential. Their emphasis is on locally sourced items and ingredients: if it's not made or grown in Arizona, it's not served. [A few compromises exist, such as salt from Utah.] Their menu is not yet very extensive, and portions are a tad small and pricey, but worth it if you support their philosophy. Also they don't brew their own beer yet (they're working on it), but offer a good tap selection from Flagstaff and other AZ breweries.

The onion soup is very good. The fried chicken nuggets are excellent, but the recipe is misdirected: if they can find a local source of fish, they could possibly have the best darn fish fry in town. The grilled smoked mushroom and cheese sandwich is outstanding.

They now have a new expanded menu. Notable additions include fish & chips [well, they're still working on it], Irish nachos, and turkey burger. Unfortunately, they dropped my favorite smoked mushroom sandwich. The turkey burger was good, anyway.

The location used to be Buster's, which was for years a local institution with a loyal customer base. Then they changed owners, and alienated everyone by wasting a lot of money on garish redecoration. More importantly, the food went up in price and somewhat down in quality. Worst of all, the much beloved bread basket with zucchini muffins became an outright abomination. As a result, people stayed away in droves. This is a classic example of trying to fix something that wasn't broken.
