NiMarco's Pizza [West]

Good, solid, dependable, middle-of-the-road pizza. You can't go wrong with them. Their location on South Beaver St. is a venerable local institution, where I once had a very tasty green chili pizza. The newly opened addition in the GreenTree shopping center is pretty much trying to fill the shoes of the old Roma Pizza, and although Roma's pizza was better, NiMarco's is quite an acceptable replacement. Moreover, they deliver to the office out by the airport, and more than once I've found myself unable to complain, my mouth being too full to do so. Their pesto pizza is also pretty good, about as good as Fratelli's.

The calzones are the best I've found so far in Flagstaff: baked to a lovely crisp, golden brown without being burnt.

For a space of several years, they owned a spin-off on Fort Valley Rd called Dan's Italian Kitchen. They proudly made their own sausage, and produced some good pizza, but their masterpiece was the Calabrese spinach pie, a massive calzone stuffed with magnificent, spicy, marinated spinach. Ah, those were the days, my friends. Of course it's gone now.

My favorite pizza at Dan's Italian Kitchen was the sausage and green chili. For comparizon, I tried the sausage and green chili pizza at NiMarco's. It wasn't quite as good, but once again my mouth was too full to complain.

With a third location opening on the east side (where the Village Inn used to be), NiMarco's now qualifies as a small chain.
