Hiro's Sushi Bar Japanese Restaurant

I don't eat here as often anymore since Teppan Fuji opened. The lunch selection is pretty limited if you're not into sushi. The yakisoba is good and generous, and the miso soup is delicious. The dinner selection is more extensive, but I rarely eat out for dinner. Just writing this, however, makes me want to go for happy hour sometime and have a sake bomber.

Now that Teppan Fuji has dropped their yakisoba lunch item, I'm more inclined to eat lunch at Hiro's when I'm in the mood for that. The yakisoba now offers a choice between tofu, chicken, and shrimp: I tried the tofu, and it was pretty mushy, so I may not order it again.

Years ago the location was Ramona's Cantina, and I'm pretty sure I never went in there, preferring to eat at Hunan West a couple of doors over (Planned Parenthood was in between, and that location is now a Subway). Then it was Papa-San Rice Bowl, and was the best rice bowl in town at the time; they had a really delicious ginger salad dressing, and I was sorry to see them go away. [Now I go to Flame Broiler for rice bowls.] Then it was Tacos Los Altos, and they were great, but then they moved over to the east side [in recent years they re-opened another west side location]. Finally Hiro's moved in.

Ramona's Cantina moved to a newly-built location on the corner of Woodlands and Beulah, and went out of business almost immediately. Then Cilantro's opened there, and they had absolutely the best chili rellenos in town. Awesome burros, too. After some time, they were taken over by Pizza by George, one of the worst pizza places in town, and the food took a dive. They closed not long after that. The place is a credit union now.
