El Capitán Fresh Mexican Grill

[CLOSED]

This location used to be a Salsa Brava, and back then it was my favorite Mexican place. When they closed that location (the east side location is still open), El Capitan took over. The lunch menu is good, but nothing I can get enthusiastic about. The salsa bar is by no means the best. When Tacos Los Altos opened, that immediately became my favorite.

Where El Capitan is truly outstanding, however, is their breakfast menu. Unfortunately, it's only offered on the weekend. The chilaquiles are excellent -- at least as good as MartAnne's, if not better. The huevos rancheros are not the best in town, but nonetheless good enough to order again. The relleno pancakes are wonderful. The chorizo & eggs is good, but not as good as the chilaquiles.

Another thing I like is that they're open for breakfast at 9 AM. Tacos Los Altos doesn't open until 10 AM. Ralbertos is open earlier, but only for breakfast burritos, for which I'm rarely in the mood.

While Crown Railroad has the best huevos rancheros in Flagstaff, the very best I've EVER had were, of all unlikely places, at a golf bar called the 19th Hole at the Best Western in Green Valley, AZ. The sauce they use is Tex-Mex heaven, and I wish I could duplicate it.
