Charly's Pub and Grill

It’s been ages since I’ve eaten here. I’ve eaten here a number of times in the past, for breakfast and dinner, but all I can remember is that the green chili posole was very good. Recently I had the posole again, and it was as good as I remembered. I also tried the chilaquiles for breakfast, and they were decent.

Back in the mid-to-late 1990s, I started hanging out in the bar for Monday Blues Night featuring Steve Willis on accordion. I enjoyed ordering the mini macho nacho, which although "mini" was a still a heap of cheesy jalapeño black bean goodness. This was the quintessential local hang-out, and I first met many of my current friends there. Then they put in a bunch of large screen TVs and chased me away.

I hear good things about the newly-opened Gopher Hole in the basement, but I still haven’t been there. Someday, I'd like to do a mini-staycation and spend a night or two in the historic hotel.
