Casa Duarte

[CLOSED]

Casa Duarte is "temporarily" closed. Its web site on facebook is also gone, so I'm thinking more along the lines of "permanently." I haven't been there in a long time anyway, because it's off my beaten path.

This place is a spin-off of MartAnne’s, which I’ve been avoiding for many years, because I thought that place was way overrated and way too popular. The location is generally out-of-the-way for me, being in the Fort Valley Shopping Center, which also suffers from inadequate parking. Earlier is better when it comes to going there: the first time I went there was just before noon, and it was jam-packed. The second time I was there was before 11 AM, and there was plenty of seating. I definitely like places that open early and offer breakfast all day, every day, but they're unfortunately well off my beaten path. If they could open another location in Woodlands Village Shopping Center, they would give Tacos Los Altos some real competition.

The green posole is very good, perhaps even better than Charly’s; having it breakfast style with eggs on top is definitely the way to go. The chilaquiles are good, especially "Christmas style" with green chili pork. The red chili tamale & egg special is very good, though I still prefer their green chili. They have a chili relleno special on Wednesdays: it's after 3 PM, however. But I finally got a chance to try it, and it's very good, one of the better ones I've had since the demise of Cilantro's.
